Turkish Food.
Before we arrived at the destinated eating place, i had absolutely no clue as to what i had gotten myself into.
When we arrived, we were greeted by this friendly waiter there, i suspect he was a turkish!
After browsing through the menu, we decided on 4 dishes for our main course. Unfortunately the excitement got to me when the food arrived and all i had were blurry photos that did not do justice to the dishes.
Dish 1 - The dish friend A had was this plate of baked rice covered in cheese, sour cream and pieces of lamb. It looked just like some baked rice dish from pizza hut or any other western shops but as we each took turns trying the dish, we were pretty impressed with the taste! It was filled with this special kind of gravy and it just made the whole dish complement each other.
Dish 2- Friend B ordered lamb chop. It came with salad, some turkish sauce, sour cream, yoghurt and obviously, lamb. The side dishes complemented each other perfectly but, the most amazing thing was that they each tasted great on its own.
Dish 3 - Friend C ordered this dish, if i remember it correctly, it was simply naan with lamb served with curry. Yes. Lamb curry. It had a different taste compared to the likes of mutton, duck and chicken curry.
But, the best main dish of the day had to be mine!
I ordered this dish which basically came with naan pieces with beef and lamb, a mixture of both meats, complemented with a mixture of olive oil, sour cream, tomato sauce and herbs and spices.
As you would have realised by now, all the dishes had either lamb or beef but sour cream has always appeared in every dish. That is kinda like how turkish people like their food done. (:
Lastly, we ordered dessert. I was almost going to go for one of their simple cakes when my friend insisted on ordering this dish called "Kunefe". He promised that that dish would definitely not fail us and we would definitely come back for more.
As the dish came, it looked very simple, it looked like dried "bee hoon" that had been baked in a pan. It was covered in grounded pistachios and they added some form of condensed milk on top of it. Probably mixed with sour cream eh?
As i cut out a small piece of the kunefe and guided it into my patient mouth, i was stunned.
Dessert never tasted this good. In my life.
The kunefe simply melted in my mouth and the taste of sweetness, sweetness and sweetness rushed into my mouth. It was pure amazing.
However, the only drawback of eating turkish food was that it was expensive. The kunefe is a must order dish and it comes at $12.50. The other dishes came at a average of 12-17 dollars each and the bill for 4 of us came up to about $140.
If a couple were to go there to eat, it would probably set them back about $50 at max. Good Turkish food can be found at either Suntec City or another one around Siglap, along the streets of outdoor dining and cafe bars.
